Tribute Concert honouring Bodhrán & Bones Player Junior Davey
Junior Davey, a native of Gurteen, County Sligo, has been teaching bodhrán at the South Sligo Summer School almost every year since the instrument was first introduced to the workshop programming in 1990. A renowned bodhrán & bones player and highly respected tutor, Junior is steeped in the rich music tradition of his native place.
The Bodhrán workshops at the South Sligo Summer School are attended year on year by an enthusiastic group of students of all ages and levels of playing ability. They come to Tubbercurry from all corners of the world as well as from closer to home, many returning to attend Junior’s workshop on a regular basis, such is the wealth of knowledge and musicianship he shares with his pupils.
This Concert in Junior’s honour will be one big celebration of that long time commitment to the summer school. No doubt, this year’s Thursday Night Recital, featuring Junior and his bodhrán class, will be even more special this year as we acknowledge and embrace the contribution of a great teacher and musician to the success of our summer school down the years.
